NEW!!!! MEETING NIGHTS CHANGED TO 1st, 3rd, & 4th TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH!!!
Our purpose is to serve you, often in your most dire time of need. Financial security enables our squad to operate with the best equipment with the best volunteers. Volunteer emergency organizations save our community billions of dollars between saved wages and efficient operations. It also keeps healthy ways to connect and serve your community within you community.
A large portion of our funding goes into recruitment and maintenance of both personnel and equipment. Even as volunteers, financial security is vital to making sure that there are people to respond today, and to make sure that people respond tomorrow. We've also made major commitments to knocking down barriers that keep people from volunteering. See our presentation from this Board of County Commissioner's meeting.
Rescue Squads in Surry County are not funded by the fire tax or any other dedicated tax. The only public funding received is a small allocation each year. On its own, it does not fund much beyond very basic operations. We bridge these gaps every year through grants, fundraisers and donations.
When you donate to us, you directly fund the service that responds to your rescue and first response needs. It keeps your volunteers (who are also your neighbors) responding to calls.
Whenever you don't specify a cause, we use donation funds whereever they are most needed. This could include:
Training and classes for personnel
Recruitment of new personnel
Addressing barriers to volunteerism
Vehicle maintenance and repair
Equipment maintenance and repair
New gear, tools, supplies, and equipment
Capital debts (mortgage, vehicle payments, etc.)
Capital acquisition (new building, vehicles, etc.)
Professional services (attorney, etc.)
Wanting to fund something specific?
We will periodically run fundraisers dedicated to specific to certain projects. Additionally, you can propose and represent your view on funding allocations during board meetings. Anyone in the community is able to attend and voice concerns, proposals, and commendations at these board meetings. Visit our resources page for meeting times and days.
